It's been one year since I moved to Oakland. It was the same night that Ghost Ship burned, and 36 people - artists, students, makers, activists, lovers, friends - died. Since then, I have struggled to make Bay Area rent as a self-employed artist, but I'm grateful for the creative community I've found and for the vibrant, dreamy city straining to hold space for the people that make it what it is.
